Asaf Ramon

Asaf Ramon

Asaf Ramon (Captain, Israeli Air Force) was born in Ramat Gan and graduated from Blich High School. Throughout his young years Asaf was an active member and a leader in the “Tzofim” (The Israeli Boy Scouts).

Even though he spent an essential part of his life in the US with his family, while Ilan trained for the space mission, Asaf loved his country, and when time came for his draft there was no doubt in his mind that he wanted to follow his fathers footsteps to become a fighter pilot in the Israeli Air Force. Like his father, he graduated with honors fro the flight cadets course and became an F-16 pilot.

He wrote in his diary: “Why Israel? it’s obvious, I can’t explain it, it’s just a part of me. Who could live anywhere else? I am in love with this Israel-Isreli, the family, the people, the culture, the music, the sea, the nature, the silence, the noise, the food, the smells… it is a place like no other… Wow, this is going to be my life. And all this without my father.”

His parents always encouraged him and his siblings to follow their dreams and fulfill their own potential. She wrote a letter to him just before his draft stating just that and giving him her blessing to realize his dream of reaching for the sky.

Asaf was killed on September 13th, 2009 during training mission when his plane crashed in the Hebron Mountains.
